Deep Connection
Council members are selected for their demonstrated relationship with the land, with Heart-J Center's mission, and with the people who experience both.

An advisory group focused on land and long-term stewardship.
Some of the most valuable knowledge about a landscape comes from the people who spend the most time listening to it.
Beginning in 2027, Heart-J Center will establish a Stewardship Council: a small group of carefully selected individuals whose deep experience on the land offers an important source of wisdom, observation, and perspective.
The Council will advise the Executive Director, helping strengthen Heart-J Center's stewardship of the landscape, its programs, and the relationships that connect people to place.
Its purpose is not governance. Its purpose is stewardship.

The Council will meet where the work happens: on the ridge, along the creek, and around a table with maps spread open.
Council members are selected for their demonstrated relationship with the land, with Heart-J Center's mission, and with the people who experience both.
Members share what they notice over years on the landscape: ecological change, visitor experience, emerging challenges, and long-term stewardship priorities.
The Council encourages decisions that weigh today's needs against the long-term health of the land, wildlife, programs, and community.
Membership is voluntary and by invitation. It recognizes people who show humility, integrity, sound judgment, and a lasting commitment to stewardship.
The Stewardship Council reflects a simple belief. The people who know a place best often carry the greatest responsibility to help care for its future.
