Teach with us

We are looking for depth, not marketing.

What we're looking for

Instructors with real field time

  • Substantial, demonstrable experience in your area of instruction
  • A teaching practice grounded in safety and sound judgment
  • Honesty about the limits of your expertise
  • Respect for the land and for the people learning on it
  • Willingness to teach within a shared curriculum and standards
Faculty relationships

Guest Instructor: teach one or more courses per season within the Institute's curriculum and standards.

Lead Faculty: own a skill path or course sequence, shape its content and mentor other instructors.

Founding Faculty Partner: help define the Institute's philosophy, standards and progression from the beginning.

What we provide

960 acres of conserved teaching ground, a developing field campus at Cow Camp, logistics and registration support, honoraria and travel support, and an organization that has run field programs here for more than a decade.

Standards you'd teach within

A shared philosophy, held plainly.

  • Experience turns information into practical knowledge
  • Skills are practiced under real field conditions
  • Safety and judgment are inseparable from technique
  • Knowledge of place matters
  • Stewardship is part of capability
  • Courses should be rigorous without becoming performative
  • Participants progress through demonstrated practice rather than bravado
  • Traditional knowledge must be presented accurately, respectfully and without unsupported cultural claims
